AYER KUNING POLLS | A PAS member in charge of research and policy has issued a challenge for Perak Amanah Youth to “bathe in the rivers” to prove the water is clean.

“If Amanah Youth is so confident there is no illegal pig farm in Ayer Kuning, why don’t all of you bathe in the rivers in Ayer Kuning to prove the water is clean and pure.

“Sungai Kuala Gepai, Sungai Batang Padang, Sungai Kenjor, you just pick which river you want to ‘cannonball’ (jump) into. I will sponsor each of you with a set of snorkels.

“You up for it?” said PAS information committee research and policy department director Nurul Islam Mohamed Yusoff in a Facebook post.

Having raised the alarm over an alleged excess of pig farms in the area, with waste that flows into the rivers, Nurul Islam (above) said he would even sponsor the Amanah members with “snorkelling sets”.

He said this in response to a video posted by Perak Amanah Youth yesterday that insisted the pig farm issue is being played up now as just part of the Ayer Kuning by-election campaign.

The Amanah branch had also pointed fingers at PAS, which was part of the 2020-2022 Perak state government, for the alleged failure to shut down illegal pig farms.

Meanwhile, Nurul Islam also mocked Perak Amanah Youth for contradicting BN deputy chairperson Mohamad Hasan, who dismissed the illegal pig farms issue as Perikatan Nasional’s attempt to incite the public.

“Just yesterday, Tok Mat said the ‘pig farm’ issue is just the opposition playing up sentiments. That there are no pig farms in Tanjong Keramat.

“Suddenly, Perak Amanah Youth came to say ‘We have ambushed a pig farm’... If you want to embarrass Tok Mat, don’t do it just a day after (his statement).

“Next time, bring him along to ‘ambush’ the pig farms. Pity him, he couldn’t find any here in Ayer Kuning. I have volunteered to show him, but there was no response,” added Nurul Islam.

On Thursday, PAS vice-president Idris Ahmad cited information from the Perak Veterinary Department’s website that there are 30 licensed pig farms in the Batang Padang and Mualim districts.

The Bagan Serai MP said if illegal pig farms are also taken into account, the total figure could be significantly higher.
