Dr Akmal Saleh, who is on an official working visit to Shanghai, has hinted at a promising development for Malacca.

In a Facebook post, the Umno Youth chief wrote: “InsyaAllah, something good is coming to Malacca. Doakan perbincangan dan perancangan kami disini dipermudahkan (Pray that our discussions and plans go well).”

The Merlimau assemblyperson, who also serves as the state executive councillor for rural development, agriculture, and food security - and is frequently in the spotlight for his provocative remarks on race and religion - shared photos of himself in discussions with Chinese officials.

On the same trip, Malacca Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusoh revealed that he is leading a state delegation in Shanghai to engage with several conglomerates in sectors such as high technology, petrochemicals, battery storage, glass insulation, and renewable energy.

“Through this official visit, I also helped to promote the potential of the high-impact project, the Straits of Malacca Waterfront Economic Zone, which serves as a catalyst for the development of Malacca's new economic corridor," he said.

“The state government is optimistic that this visit will have a significant impact in attracting more potential investors, particularly from China, to invest in Malacca.

“This includes sharing several initiatives, especially the ‘investor-friendly’ policies introduced by my administration to ensure that Malacca remains a preferred investment destination,” he added.

In addition to Akmal, the chief minister was accompanied by Melaka Corporation CEO Yusof Abu Bakar and Malaysian Investment Development Authority state director Jaibalan Harirajan.

The trip comes on the heels of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Malaysia from April 15 to 17.
