Cancel Rafizi's leave, nation needs economy minister: Bersatu Youth

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim should cancel Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli’s leave due to global economic volatility, said Bersatu Youth information chief Harris Idaham Rashid.

“The country needs all its ministers on deck to find the best solution to deal with the current economic climate.

“Being on leave for a month during this critical time, when many policies will be decided by Putrajaya, is an irresponsible act against the country and the people,” he said in a statement today.

On April 30, a minister, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Rafizi is on leave amid rumours about the PKR deputy president’s resignation from his government post.

However, it should be noted that the Pandan MP is on leave for a “few days”, not a month as mentioned by Harris.

“Anwar informed today’s cabinet meeting that Rafizi is on leave for a few days. There has been no resignation, and these rumours are entirely false,” the minister added.

Discontent has been rising within PKR, following divisional election results that saw several of Rafizi’s key allies lose, indicating the difficult road ahead for him as he prepares to defend his number two position in the party at next month’s central leadership election.

Separate govt, party matters

On that note, Harris said if it was true Rafizi was on leave due to PKR’s election issue, he reminded the Pandan MP not to mix government matters with party politics.

“Cabinet members should not mix their party’s internal political matters when administering the country.

“The people are not to be blamed for whatever happened during the PKR polls.

“So, don’t punish the rakyat in your protests,” he added.
