PAS launches anti-AIDS campaign, to engage with LGBTQ+ and at risk groups

PAS has launched a comprehensive action plan aimed at helping the country achieve the global Ending Aids 2030 goal.

The plan, dubbed Get to Zero 2030 (GTZ 2030), will be implemented by the PAS health bureau and supporting NGOs.

PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, who launched the programme earlier today, said that GTZ 2030 is based on Islamic values and scientific evidence.

Among its strategies are engaging with at-risk groups, including LGBTQ+, sex workers, and drug addicts, and educating them about the ABCD concept - abstinence, being faithful to one partner, using condoms, and not using drugs that require needles.

They will also be organising a spiritual and psychosocial rehabilitation programme that encourages abstinence, besides giving comprehensive medical treatment at HIV/PrEP clinics.

Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is an anti-HIV drug.

Launched at the end of 2015, the End Aids 2030 agenda aims to achieve this goal by hitting a 95-95-95 target.

This is to have 95 percent of people living with HIV knowing their status, 95 percent of those who know their status are on anti-retroviral therapy, and 95 percent of those on such therapy to have a suppressed viral load.
