'Hero' PAS must swallow its words on flag blunders - Harapan rep

PAS, which is prone to acting like a hero and attacking others for making mistakes, is now forced to swallow its own words, said Pakatan Harapan Youth chief Woo Kah Leong.

This comes after Terengganu PAS apologised over a blunder involving the national flag.

Woo said the Islamist party previously painted such errors as “unforgivable”, even calling for citizenships to be revoked and linking the issue to the religious beliefs of DAP leaders.

“If we apply their logic, should Terengganu PAS be shut down? Should the person behind the post have their citizenship stripped?” the DAP Pasir Bedamar assemblyperson questioned in a statement today.

However, he said that as responsible politicians, the political temperature should be turned down while focusing energy on nation-building and empowering the people, instead of endlessly attacking political opponents over technical errors.

Earlier, Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh reiterated calls for stricter punishments against those involved in offences related to the display of the national flag.

The Merlimau assemblyperson cautioned against normalising mistakes related to the national flag and said it would only be fair to call for stern action against Terengganu PAS, as previous similar incidents involving other quarters had also faced backlash.

Former Selangor state executive councillor Teng Chang Khim also described PAS as a “traitor” while calling for the citizenship revocation of those behind the logo.

Series of errors

Yesterday, Terengganu PAS issued an apology after it was pointed out that the Jalur Gemilang used by the party had only 11 points on its star and 12 red and white stripes.

Deeming the matter a “technical error”, Terengganu PAS then uploaded a corrected logo with a 14-point star and 14 alternating stripes.

The incident is the latest in a series of mistakes involving the national flag, which has affected Sin Chew Daily, an electronic billboard in Bukit Bintang, an exhibitor at a baby products expo, and the Education Ministry.

Previously, in the wake of the Education Ministry’s mistake in publishing the defective Jalur Gemilang in its SPM Analysis Report, Teng had taken a jab at the government, along with certain “patriots” and their high-handed response to Sin Chew’s gaffe.

Based on sources, including a ministry insider, Malaysiakini reported that several officers from the ministry’s examination board were transferred days after the publication of the inaccurate AI-generated images.
