Court orders ex-teacher to pay RM11k for vandalising MP's vehicle

A former teacher at a daycare centre has pleaded guilty to vandalising a vehicle owned by Sri Gading MP Aminolhuda Hassan’s service centre in Batu Pahat, Johor.

In the Batu Pahat Magistrates’ Court earlier today, Azrie Abul Hassan Ashari, 37, was sentenced to a RM6,000 fine or 12 months in prison if he fails to pay the amount.

According to a Harian Metro report, magistrate Arun Noval Dass also ordered him to pay an additional RM5,000 in compensation to Aminolhuda’s service centre or face another four months in prison.

Azrie was accused of committing mischief by vandalising and causing RM7,530 in damages to the Toyota Estima at Dewan Haji Aminolhuda in Parit Yaani at around 11am on May 10.

The charge, framed under Section 427 of the Penal Code, provides for a one-year jail term, a fine, or both.

Deputy public prosecutor Farah Wahidah Sharif appeared for the prosecution while Azrie was represented by counsel Tan Song Yan.

Following his sentencing, Azrie reportedly sought the court’s permission to meet Aminolhuda, who was present in court for the proceedings, so he could convey his apologies for his actions.

On May 12, the Amanah leader showed the damage to the Toyota Estima caused by the man, who was arrested by police soon after a report was made.

A urine test also revealed the suspect was positive for methamphetamine.

According to the politician, the man hit the MPV’s windshield with an object at least 17 times, breaking its wipers, side mirrors, and back glass, among others.

Aminolhuda also expressed concern over an apparent culture of sowing hatred towards political leaders.
