  • PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh warns delegates against pursuing personal agendas that could harm the party.

  • Fuziah likens the party to a ship, saying individual actions could sink the entire group.

PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh has issued a stern warning to delegates of the party’s youth and women’s wings, urging them to safeguard unity and not pursue personal agendas that could harm the party from within.

In an emotionally charged speech, Fuziah likened the party to a ship sailing towards an important destination.

She said that if anyone attempted to “drill a hole in the ship” for their own interests, the consequences would not only affect that individual, but everyone on board – the entire party.

“This is our party, we are all in this ship. If we bring personal agendas and drill holes in the ship, then we will all sink,” Fuziah stressed during her officiating speech at the PKR Youth and Women’s Annual National Congress in Johor Bahru earlier today.

She further reminded delegates that building the “ship” was no easy feat.

Fuziah said it was constructed through sacrifice, sweat, and tears – including experiences of imprisonment and oppression.

As such, she said the responsibility of maintaining the ship is a collective one.

“We built this with great hardship. At one time, we were seen as a mosquito party, but today we are the government, and our president is the prime minister. Don’t let anyone drill holes in our ship,” she said, which was met with thunderous applause.

Value-based politics

Fuziah also called for politics based on values, stressing that differences in opinion among party members should not be a reason to divide.

“We fight like siblings, not enemies. We do our best because we love our party. We are all PKR,” she added.

Her speech comes amid heightened tensions within the party ahead of tomorrow’s internal polls.

Incumbent PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli and his allies claim that they are being besieged by operators in the party, who have set up a contest between the former and Nurul Izzah Anwar.

As deputy president, Rafizi was - by convention - supposed to officiate the wings AGM tonight.

However, he turned down the invitation.

This is after he was allegedly blindsided by Nurul Izzah and incumbent PKR vice-president Amirudin Shari launching the Sabah PKR election machinery.

Rafizi said that as he is also PKR’s election director, he should have at least been in the loop on this.
