The Education Ministry is investigating an incident of a primary school student being scolded and humiliated in public by teachers, which video went viral on social media.

Minister Fadhlina Sidek said she regretted the incident as it could affect the child emotionally, and vowed to fully focus on the issue.

“Teachers are always reminded of their integrity and ethics as civil servants, no matter what.

“I believe there is a safer and more private space to discuss issues and solve them amicably,” Berita Harian quoted her as saying.

Yesterday, a TikTok account shared a video, seemingly from the student’s mother, who expressed her anger and disappointment after finding out that a teacher scolded her child and the incident was recorded.

The mother also claimed that her daughter was surrounded by four to five other teachers.

It wasn’t clear which school the incident took place in, who recorded it and why. However, according to the mother, she received the video from the teacher herself via WhatsApp.

Fadhlina further said that her ministry has instructed Education director-general Azman Adnan to look into this matter more seriously as it involves teachers’ integrity and ethics.

“The ministry has reminded teachers so many times to follow guidelines and comply with good ethics inside and outside the classroom, and even on social media,” said Fadhlina.
