English newspapers

Both the Star and New Straits Times reported on the speeches of Umno's Woman, Youth and Puteri leaders, who called for unity and reconciliation within Umno and amongst the Barisan Nasional component parties.

Malay newspapers

While Berita Harian presented the same speeches as calling for Umno members to cooperate in achieving the national mission of Vision 2020, Utusan Malaysia led with the wing leaders prepping up their members for the upcoming general elections.

Tamil newspapers

All Tamil dailies - Malaysia Nanban, Tamil Nesan and Makkal Osai - led with Deepavali greeting for the festival which falls tomorrow. These dailies will be shut for two days, only hitting the streets again on Saturday.

Nanban and Nesan also led with a speech by Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi that the government was being fair to all races.

Editorial

Echoing deputy-premier Najib Abdul Razak's call on Monday for Malaysians to 'reach for the stars', Utusan Malaysia and Berita Harian called on Malays to rise towards a 'National Civilisation' fitting for a 'space age' nation.

Also starting where Najib left off, New Straits Times called for Malays to shed their anxieties and 'siege mentality' and to reach out for the opportunities available and square up to the challenges.
