Boy, 4, dies after fall from 30th floor apartment

A four-year-old boy was killed after he is believed to have fallen from the balcony of his 30th-floor residence at an apartment in Bukit Jalil earlier yesterday.

Cheras police chief Aidil Bolhassan said an emergency call was received at 11.17am from a man reporting the incident.

“The victim’s body has been sent to the forensics unit of the Canselor Tuanku Muhriz Hospital, and a post-mortem examination is scheduled for tomorrow (today),” he said in a statement.

The case has been classified as sudden death, and further investigation is ongoing.

A 37-second video of the incident has also gone viral on social media, showing a man believed to be a family member in tears next to the child, whose body was covered with a cloth.

Suhakam had yesterday urged the government and all stakeholders to take immediate and decisive action following the tragic deaths of two children who fell from their high-rise homes in Puchong and Putrajaya within days of each other last month.

Suhakam’s children’s commissioner Farah Nini Dusuki said these consecutive tragedies are not isolated accidents.

“They are preventable deaths that highlight a serious failure to implement essential safety measures in high-rise residential buildings.

“These children did not have to die. Their loss is a direct result of systemic negligence in prioritising child safety where it matters most: at home,” she added in a statement.
