Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has acknowledged that the goods and services tax (GST), which his coalition had opposed in the past, is efficient and transparent.

However, Anwar, who also serves as finance minister, said it is not yet appropriate to implement GST as the people’s income levels remain too low.
