The Kuala Lumpur High Court has slapped a RM100,000 damages order on a TikTok user who claimed Rosmah Mansor dabbled in black magic.

Judge Ahmad Shahrir Salleh ruled in favour of former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak’s wife after Ku Hilmie Ku Din, 35, failed to file a memorandum of appearance to defend himself against the suit within the required timeframe.

Delivering the judgment via Zoom, the judge said Rosmah had successfully made her case and deserved compensation for the defamatory remarks.

“After considering all factors, this court finds that the total amount of RM100,000 is a fair and balanced assessment. This total includes general damages and aggravated damages.

“The claim for exemplary damages is disallowed, as no solid evidence was presented before this court to support such an award,” he said, according to Sinar Harian.

TikTok user Ku Hilmie Ku Din

On Sept 19, 2023, Rosmah filed the suit through Messrs Hafarizam Wan & Aisha Mubarak, seeking RM1 million in damages from Ku Hilmie over the defamatory statement.

In her supporting affidavit, Rosmah, as the plaintiff, named Ku Hilmie as the defendant after the individual - who had 1,584 followers - uploaded a video on his TikTok account under the name “CEO Heelmie Fighter”, containing false allegations on March 22 that same year.

Rosmah argued that the compensation was warranted as the defamatory remarks had destroyed her credibility, good name, and reputation.

She requested that the damages take into account her status, background, achievements, and the fact that her reputation as a public figure and patron of several charitable organisations in the country had been tarnished.
