With 6-year-old son killed and husband detained, mother struggles to cope

Overwhelmed with grief and trauma, the mother of M Tishant, the six-year-old boy brutally murdered after being reported missing, has attempted to end her own life.

Johor Women, Family and Community Development Committee chairperson Khairin Nisa Ismail confirmed the heartbreaking development.

“Yes, yesterday we sent officers from the state Welfare Department to offer assistance to the victim’s family, but they declined the support.

“We were also informed that Tishant’s mother had tried to take her own life and was sent to a hospital for treatment,” she told The Star.

Khairin said her office is awaiting the hospital’s medical report before extending psychological and other forms of assistance to the devastated family.

The case, which has shocked the nation, took a darker turn when Tishant’s 36-year-old father was arrested to assist in the investigation.

Found dead

Tishant was reported missing on July 24 in Iskandar Puteri, Johor. The father had claimed his son vanished near a coffee shop in Taman Bukit Indah - but that narrative quickly unravelled.

The young boy was later found dead on July 28, strangled with a cable tie. His lifeless body was discovered in Rompin, Jempol, Negeri Sembilan.

Yesterday, the New Straits Times quoted a man claiming to be the granduncle of Tishant saying that the deceased’s mother had not eaten and had been crying continuously since the day he went missing.

The man was met when he accompanied Tishant’s mother to claim the child’s remains from the hospital.

“We often feel sad when we hear about abused children. But this time, it’s happened to us. I can’t sleep. Every time I close my eyes, I see Tishant’s face. We were very close. He used to call me ‘grandpa’,” he said.

Tishant’s funeral took place today.
