PN condemns 'thug politics', in solidarity with Rafizi

Perikatan Nasional has joined the chorus of politicians condemning the attack on Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli’s son at a shopping mall in Putrajaya yesterday.

In a statement last night, PN chief whip Takiyuddin Hassan said that if Rafizi’s claims that the attack was an attempt to silence him were true, this marked a dark turn in the political landscape.

“If this allegation is true, it marks growing samseng (thug) politics, which is very unhealthy and dangerous to the political landscape.

“Differences in political views must not translate into threats and physical violence, let alone involving children.

“As such, PN expresses its full moral support to Rafizi and his family during this difficult moment,” he said.

Yesterday, Rafizi’s 12-year-old son was dragged out of his car by two assailants and stabbed with a syringe as the MP, his wife, and the boy were entering the vehicle.

Rafizi said the attack was carried out by two individuals dressed in black and wearing full-face helmets.

Takiyuddin urged police to deliver justice for Rafizi and his family, while calling on the public to remain calm.

In a separate statement, MCA Youth information chief Neow Choo Seong said the attack was reminiscent of violence committed during the communist insurgency.

“At that time, security personnel, administrative officers, and even their families were targets of attacks.

“History has proven that such cruelty brings no benefit, and only plants the seeds of fear and hatred in society,” he said.
