Despite PN's overtures, Warisan insists on going solo for Sabah polls

Warisan has made it clear that it would go solo in the upcoming Sabah state election.

This comes after Perikatan Nasional chief whip Takiyuddin Hassan said that his coalition has not ruled out the possibility of working with Warisan for the polls.

“Warisan has, from the outset, made our stand clear. Under the leadership of our president Shafie Apdal, Warisan will contest the 17th Sabah state election independently, under our own logo.

“This decision has been consistently communicated and remains unchanged,” said party information chief Azis Jamman in a statement today.

Earlier today, Takiyuddin said that such an alliance between PN and Warisan is not impossible given the current political landscape.

“PN will contest on a coalition ticket. We will not move solo because any party that does that will become irrelevant. 

“That’s why many smaller parties are joining coalitions,” Sinar Harian reported him as saying today.

‘No backdoor deals’

Pouring cold water on Takiyuddin’s remarks, Azis stressed that Warisan did not make any arrangements with other coalitions in regard to forming a political cooperation.

He said that any suggestions of a backdoor alliance are baseless and do not reflect Warisan’s official position.

“Warisan’s only and most important pact is with the people of Sabah.

“Our focus is to address the pressing challenges faced by Sabahans, including the rising cost of living, lack of infrastructure, unreliable electricity and water supply, limited job opportunities, and the long-overdue demand for Sabah’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

“We are confident that the people of Sabah will continue to place their trust in Warisan to deliver a better, fairer, and more prosperous future for our state,” Azis added.
