DAP has become 'MCA 2.0' under Loke, says Ti

DAP has become the party it once despised - MCA - under Anthony Loke’s leadership, said former MCA vice-president Ti Lian Ker.

This came after the DAP secretary-general declared that his party could function without the support of MCA in the coalition government.

“To his supporters, this might look like bravado. But beneath the surface, it reveals something else: a DAP that has become exactly what it once despised,” Ti (above) said on Facebook today.

“Today’s DAP is nothing more than MCA 2.0, but performing or functioning worse than MCA.

“To start with, can DAP or ‘MCA 2.0’ start another institution like TAR University (Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology) or Utar (Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman)?” he asked.

“Where are the many welfare and educational programmes that MCA had done in DAP or ‘MCA 2.0’?” he added.

Yesterday, Loke said DAP has never indicated interest in collaborating with MCA despite the latter often issuing statements to distance itself from the party.

“First of all, we never said we are interested in working with them. So, don’t flatter yourself by saying we are trying to seek your cooperation,” Berita Harian reported him as saying.

The transport minister said this after attending a Perak DAP dinner in Ipoh, Perak.

Loke was responding to a comment by MCA Youth information chief Neow Choo Seong, who stated that it was difficult for his party to work with DAP despite both being part of the government.

‘DAP more subservient to Umno’

Ti said the real tragedy for Malaysians was not MCA’s weakness but DAP’s betrayal of the public.

He also accused DAP of becoming more subservient to Umno than MCA ever did.

He pointed out that MCA had never positioned itself as a revolutionary party, as it knew its limitations and played a modest role.

‘You’re not Kit Siang, Karpal’

Ti further took shots at Loke, reminding him that he is nothing like DAP stalwarts Lim Kit Siang and Karpal Singh.

“Lim and Karpal fought with conviction, often at great personal cost. They spoke truth to power even when the odds were stacked against them. They were feared not because of arrogance, but because of integrity.

“Loke, by contrast, measures his strength in cheap shots at MCA. Kicking MCA when MCA is down? Kicking a weakened opponent is not courage - it smells of cowardice.

“Instead of embodying reformist conviction, he practises political convenience. Instead of raising the DAP’s bar, he lowers it,” Ti added.
