Muhyiddin expresses disappointment over AGM disruption

Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin has expressed his disappointment over the commotion that erupted while he was delivering his policy speech at the party’s annual general assembly (AGM) last night.

He said the incident prevented him from properly delivering his address, particularly on matters he wanted to convey to delegates.

He also stressed that the incident had tarnished the party’s reputation.

“When the matter arose, when it happened, I couldn’t state it outright when the media asked me, I didn’t know.

“But it’s okay, even though I was disappointed… in my text to the supreme leadership council, I wrote ‘very shameful’.

“I said that not because it touches on my position as president… but because of how, as members, we should safeguard the party’s good name.

“As Abah (the affectionate title he’s called in the party which means father), I am truly disappointed,” he said during his winding-up speech at the 8th Bersatu AGM in Shah Alam today.

Last night, chaos broke out when Muhyiddin, in his speech, claimed there was a plot to collect signatures to oust him.

His remarks were met with shouts of “Not true!” and “Turun Tan Sri!” (Step down, Muhyiddin), countered with louder shouts of “Hidup Tan Sri!” (Live Muhyiddin).

Action will be taken

Elaborating further, Muhyiddin said that as Bersatu’s founder, what transpired had definitely damaged the party’s image.

He also hinted that action would be taken against delegates who caused the disruption.

“I see all this happening because of the actions of my children (delegates), understandably, I have many children.

“When something happens, should Abah just do nothing? If I don’t act, if I don’t advise… then as abah, I would be irresponsible,” he added.

At a press conference later, Muhyiddin reiterated that the incident is a normal occurrence within “a family” and urged all quarters to move on.

“But we will not let it slide. We took steps, we decided in a special meeting this morning, and action has been taken by the permanent chair.

“The situation is now stable. And there is absolutely no issue that some quarters expected might happen again.

“I asked them and requested their assurance, not just for today but also moving forward,” he said.

“If we want to be a government-in-waiting, don’t underestimate us. We have managed our problem well, and now we look forward,” he stressed.
