PAS MUKTAMAR | PAS Youth delegates to its 66th muktamar in Kedah are expected to discuss Perikatan Nasional’s structure and way forward during their debate session today.

Speaking to Malaysiakini, the wing’s information chief Khairul Nadzir Helmi Azhar said this includes how the coalition should be shaped as they gear up for the upcoming Sabah state polls and the next general election.

“Surely the issue about PN structuring and efficiency of its administration would be discussed (during the debates).

“There will be debates on how PN should move forward for the upcoming elections and its structure.

“Because we are expecting new families to join PN, which is something we should prepare for,” he said, but stopped short of naming any parties.

It was understood that he was referring to MCA and MIC, both BN component parties, which are rumoured to be planning to leave the coalition.

Nadzir (above) hinted that the youth wing’s annual general assembly would also see the proposal of an “interesting motion”, but declined to reveal what it would be about.

When asked if the youth delegates might bring up the issue of PN’s prime minister candidate, he played coy, saying, “I was not informed, maybe not, but let’s see.”

According to Nadzir, among other things to be discussed during the meeting include the Urban Renewal Act, the genocide of Palestinians by Israel, and the wing’s election machinery preparation.

The PAS Youth muktamar began last night with several formalities, while its launch ceremony and policy speech by PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden are scheduled to take place later today, followed by debates.

During Bersatu’s annual general meeting last week, party delegates supported a resolution to name its president Muhyiddin Yassin, who is also the PN chairperson, as the party’s candidate for the 11th prime minister.

However, the decision appeared to hit a sore spot with PAS leaders, who cautioned Bersatu against making hasty decisions without proper consultations among members of the opposition coalition.
