PAS MUKTAMAR | A PAS delegate from Johor was left disappointed when his request to debate a motion on strengthening Perikatan Nasional was denied by the party’s permanent chairperson, Hussin Ismail.
Tenggara PAS division chief Nazari Mokhtar had been waiting for his turn to debate the motion proposed by the PAS Youth wing.
However, right after it was debated by delegates from Shah Alam and Dungun divisions, Hussin immediately called for a voice vote to pass the resolution.
This was despite Nazari having gone on stage to deliver his speech.
“Not yet. Please be patient. Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh...” the delegate said, signalling to the chairperson that he wanted to debate the issue.
Hussin immediately stopped Nazari and told him that the procedures had been met to approve the motion, and the muktamar had already decided unanimously through a voice vote.

Despite this, Nazari made several attempts to plead to the chairperson to allow him at least five minutes, saying that he had an important message to discuss about election preparations.
“If I do not raise this now, this issue will not be discussed. No other delegate has brought up what I want to raise. This is important for the upcoming election.
“I am pleading once again on behalf of Tenggara (division) and ‘Bangsa Johor’.
However, Hussin did not budge and told the retired army officer to instead write to the party secretary-general what he wished to discuss.
‘No one raised Malay rights’
When approached by Malaysiakini later, Nazari, who contested the Tenggara seat for PN during the 15th general election, said he was “very disappointed” with the chairperson for denying his right to debate.

According to Nazari, he wanted to raise the issue of defending Malay rights, claiming that no other delegates to the assembly had raised such an issue.
The Tenggara division also had a series of proposals that he planned to pitch during the muktamar, Nazari said.
“The issue I wanted to discuss was that the life or death of PAS in the 16th general election depends on the strong support of the Malay Muslims.
“But not a single representative has raised the issue of defending the Malays.
“What is the point of Shahidan Kassim and Annuar Musa being part of the party’s top leadership if they fail to bring the Malay Umno members and supporters to support PAS?” he said in a text message.
