The Kampung Baru and Kampung Sungai Baru redevelopment issue has reignited fresh controversy following the violent Sept 11 eviction, which left a senior police officer injured.

Located near the iconic Saloma Link Bridge and the Kampung Baru LRT station, within sight of the Petronas Twin Towers, Kampung Sungai Baru has faced redevelopment delays for nearly a decade due to disputes over compensation.

Some residents have also criticised the compulsory acquisition of their land under the Land Acquisition Act 1960.

Today, the Kampong Bharu Development Corporation (PKB) issued a FAQ document in an attempt to address questions surrounding the redevelopment of the area, regarded as one of Malaysia’s most valuable pieces of real estate, in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
