National carrier Malaysia Airlines (MAS) is expected to firm up its order of six Airbus A380s in the next two months, the aircraft manufacturer reportedly said Wednesday.

"Right now, we are finalising the A380 orders," Airbus chief operating officer John Leahy told state news agency Bernama .

"I expect that we will be doing that probably in the next 30 to 60 days," he added.

There was speculation earlier this year that MAS would cancel its US$1.8 billion order, after production problems caused extensive delays in delivery.

Earlier this year Leahy was reported as saying there would "absolutely" be compensation for Malaysia Airlines over the delay.

But he would not be drawn on the issue Wednesday, or confirm the number of A380s that MAS would finally purchase.

"MAS has indicated to Airbus it will purchase the aircraft but no timeframe has been set yet for the new delivery date," he told Bernama .

MAS had originally planned to take its first delivery of A380s this year but it was later delayed until 2011 before being brought back to 2009, Bernama reported.

Asked if Airbus would be able to meet the 2009 delivery date, Leahy was non-committal.

"We're still finalising that with MAS. We are working with them on that," he said. "It could be later."
