English newspapers

New Straits Times , Star and The Sun front-paged the crackdown on rallies. They also reported the prime minister’s comments that no one is above the law, in relation to Sunday’s human rights walk where five lawyers and three supporters were arrested.

They further reported the arrest of PKR information chief Tian Chua, PAS vice-president Mat Sabu and others for their involvement in the Nov 10 Bersih rally.

Malay newspapers

Utusan Malaysia and Berita Harian front-paged the arrest of Tian Chua and Mohamad Sabu yesterday and news of three more flood casualties in Pahang and Kelantan.

Utusan Malaysia also led with the prime minister defending the arrest of eight people during yesterday’s human rights walk, saying that the law applies to all without fear or favour.

Tamil newspapers

Tamil Nesan led with Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s warning that action would be taken against anyone who breaks the law. He was referring to the arrest of five lawyers yesterday for participating in an illegal march.

The daily also reported MIC President S Samy Vellu as saying that the standard of living of the Indian Malaysian community is improving.

Makkal Osai led with a report about Samy Vellu barring its reporter from covering a function in Klang. The daily also reported a request by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz to the Indian community not to ditch MIC.
