'Money to buy car, shop' - Albert drops 'RM500k' video

Businessperson Albert Tei has released another video in the Sabah corruption scandal - the latest of which implicates caretaker state youth and sports minister Ellron Angin.

In the video uploaded to the "Pejuang Tun Dr Mahathir" Facebook page yesterday, Ellron can be seen discussing with Tei the receipt of alleged RM530,000 in funds.

"I have already given Datuk (Ellron) the funds. I gave RM500,000, with the RM30,000 to buy what? Buy a shop. Datuk remember?" Tei said.

The four-term Sook assemblyperson nodded in agreement, responding to Tei's prompting by saying that there was a loan to pay.

Tei added that his company had already banked in the RM30,000 to an agent.

The businessperson further prompted the politician by asking him if he recalled receiving about a fifth of the alleged RM500,000 to pay for a car.

"Do you remember, Datuk?" Tei asked.

"I remember," Ellron said.

When Tei asked if it was RM100,000 or RM150,000, Ellron said, "I've already forgotten."

Tei can be heard saying that RM100,000 was banked in, while RM400,000 was given in cash.

Denial

The video, which spans two minutes and 26 seconds, allegedly depicts Ellron and Tei at the former's residence in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

In July, Ellron denied receiving an alleged RM530,000 bribe in connection with the corruption scandal, dismissing the accusation as "baseless slander".

Last month, Ellron, who was the Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star) deputy president, declared his support for Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).

This was despite Star's automatic expulsion from GRS after opting to use its own logo.

In the video, Ellron was seen agreeing with Tei, who alleged that the politician had received a 10 percent share in an unnamed company from caretaker state chief minister Hajiji Noor.

Tei: He (Hajiji) gave Datuk (Ellron) (the shares).

Ellron: Ya lah.

Tei: For Datuk (Ellron) to support him.

Ellron: Correct.

Tei also alluded to a nephew of Ellron's who allegedly functioned as a proxy for the shares.

This allegation came ahead of the Sabah election, which will see voters casting their ballots on Nov 29. Nomination day will be on Nov 15.

Since last November, more than a dozen GRS politicians - including senior state cabinet members - have been linked to the mining scandal.

Tei and two assemblypersons have since been charged, while the fate of the remaining figures remains uncertain, prompting critics to allege a possible cover-up.

Malaysiakini has contacted Ellron, Hajiji, and his aide for comment.
