Kudos to Paranjothy for his moral courage
In Malaysia, we all know what it means to publicly go against the Umno regime. In such circumstances, it is quite remarkable for the likes of Paranjothy to say what he has said.
On Gerakan rep: Umno incites racial sentiments
Jonson Chong: The Gerakan politician, S Paranjothy, deserves our applause and support for his courage and honesty. The same goes for Dr Toh Kin Woon .
In Malaysia, we all know what it means to publicly go against the Umno regime. In such circumstances, it is quite remarkable for the likes of Paranjothy to say what he has said. To truly serve the nation, we must first have the moral courage to face the truth, without regard for our personal circumstances.
The prime minister himself has asked all Malaysians to look beyond race and religion. Why then are there still political parties based on race? It is now time that the honest politicians in Barisan Nasional take a stand and do the right thing for Malaysia.
On '9 reasons' to lock up Uthayakumar
Ahmad Kamal: There really is no objective manner to decide what is or is not sedition. Any law on sedition provides leeway for the attorney-general (representing the executive) to claim that particular acts, words, etc, are seditious.
The fact that many notable Indians from representatives of Hindu Sangam and Miba president Sivakumar , have aired the grievances of the Indian community from the days before and after Merdeka is testimony to the legitimacy of the Hindraf movement. The alleged sedition complained of are statements of frustration of a community denied the fair benefits of citizenry of the country. The majority had failed this minority group and must take the blame for the Hindraf uprising and not take this opportunity to kill dissent wherever it may be found or raised.
Any further incarceration and persecution of the Hindraf 5 would only sow a greater sense of injustice perpetrated against the community. The fact that the executive (the internal security minister called the shots) are persecuting these five lawyers and therefore perceived as 'right-minded' citizens and upholders justice and fairness, appears to be high-handed to the community and making them feel completely vulnerable, worthless and defenceless in the arrests of its lawyer-leaders.
Why is it when former premier Dr M calls for cutting back on bumi privileges - that's called policy change but when other communities raise the same, it’s called sedition?
The executive has shown itself to be nothing less than a bully.
On Johari: Only Muslims can use 'Allah'
Chandran Sukumaran: I am quite dismayed by the way the deputy internal security minister has called for abolishment of the word ‘Allah’ to depict God by the Catholics in Malaysia. He seems to have privatised the word ‘Allah’ to Malaysian Muslim. As the whole world knows ‘Allah’ is an Arabic word for God. Jesus Christ is believed to have come from Arabia and what's the problem in the reference?
I don't see any problem in adopting the word to describe the God. Perhaps the word in not permitted under Islam Hadhari? Oh my God! Why are we so divided?
On Deputy minister caught lying
Concerned Citizen: Incorrect information is being spread by persons who hold important positions in government. This is sensitive and dangerous in a multi-racial country like Malaysia. Information from government and those outside government must be correct. Otherwise we will find that we will become a nation without credibility.
Recently, the deputy minister of foreign affairs said that non-bumiputeras are not keen to join the Foreign
Ministry. What is the source of his information? His statement should be investigated and if found to be
incorrect action must be taken against him.
If this allowed to continue then we will never be able to correct the wrongs in Malaysia. If we have pain in the foot we must say so. But instead if say that we have pain in the head then the medicine administered by the doctor will be for the wrong pain. In the end, we will die.
