'Most mischievous child loves his father the most' - Akmal

UMNO AGM | Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh described himself as a “mischievous child” who loves Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi like a father.

He said many assumed that he was not aligned with the party president, but that was not the case.

“Many say I’m not on the same page as the president, but I want to tell you this: the most mischievous child is the child who loves his father the most.

“Because he cannot bear to see his father (the president) being deceived and frightened by things that are not true.

“It’s okay, I have no personal interest… (but) Umno must rise again, it must return to its rightful place - that’s all,” he said in his winding-up speech at the Umno general assembly.

Prior to the Umno assembly, the Merlimau assemblyperson was seen as “not aligned” with Zahid (above, left) due to several of the deputy prime minister’s past actions - particularly to defend the party’s role in government.

Akmal repeated criticisms of Umno’s cooperation with Pakatan Harapan ally DAP during his youth wing policy speech, where he also announced his resignation as a Malacca state executive councillor.

Zahid had also consistently maintained Umno’s decision to remain in government, while other senior party leaders and delegates also elaborated on the matter.

30pct women participation in Umno needed

Wanita Umno chief Noraini Ahmad, in her winding-up speech, emphasised the need for 30 percent women’s participation in the party leadership.

She said this was not an emotional appeal or mere conference rhetoric, but a strategic move to uplift women.

“It must begin from within our own party.

“Wanita Umno stresses the importance of Umno setting this minimum 30 percent target in stages, in a planned manner, and most importantly, formally enshrined in the party constitution,” she said.
