When you hold public office you make a choice and that choice comes with several consequences. When you break moral values ultimately you break yourself as is evident from what has happened to Chua. Once you operate in the public domain then you set yourself a standard that lesser mortals would judge you by.

All Malaysians do not have to become ‘ulama’, as he scornfully remarked. They are just ordinary individuals having a standard of expectation from their leaders. During the Cold War era, espionage was conducted by studying the weaknesses of leaders and then holding them to ransom. Wine, women and money were the lures.

Sorry, Chua you had to go and you are fully responsible even if your detractors did one on you. They succeeded because they knew about your personal weaknesses.

Mrs Juliana Tan: I fully agree with the general public that intruding into a person's private affairs is a downright crime. I urge the IGP Musa Hassan to pin down and arrest the culprit(s) who videotaped Dr Chua Soi Lek's private movements in a hotel room.

It is now no more safe for anyone to book into a hotel. The government should lay down a ruling forbidding the installation of CCTVs inside hotel rooms.

I laud Chua's family, especially his wife, for standing by him in this hour of trouble. Chua, you have our full support as you have carried out your duty so well as health minister. Whatever your indiscretions were, we still think great of you. God bless you.

J Wang: A long time ago when the late SH Tan had his own regular and very popular column in the Malay Mail he used to joke that as a newspaper editor, he had contemplated such headlines as ‘Blue films: Minister promises to act’ or ‘Porn movies: Umno Youth urges minister to act’.

In this context, we would expect the honourable minister only to act to crack down on the scourge. Never in his wildest dreams would he had believed that a day would come when a minister would literally act in a blue movie. Tan would indeed be laughing in his grave.

On Hypocrisy can save you but honesty will kill

Politicians are about image .No politician can survive if the enduring image of him is his romping about in the nude - however hard the claim that he was overworked and over-stressed.

On For BN and PM, MIC to mobilise thousands

Ksmugam: It’ s a joke when S Samy Vellu said that 15,000 Indians would show that Indians support the MIC and Barisan. As was the argument earlier, these 15,000 Indians won’t reflect the support of 2.5 million Indians!

If Hindraf were to call a meeting in KL, hundreds of thousands of Indians would turn up at their own expense to show solidarity with their leaders who are in detention under the draconian ISA.

Samy Vellu and Abdullah Ahmad Badawi should not waste time and effort by calling for mock meetings with Indians who do not have the grassroots support. Instead they should call for the Hindraf leaders who are in the Kamunting Camp for a meeting to discuss the Indian problems.

In this way the MIC and the Barisan might have a slim change of regaining the Indian vote. Great people are humble and wise.

Subramanian Sinnapan: The government just do not care. They are not bothered about civility. It is a corrupt government and they know very well the press will not print anything that is against them. If they do then they will threaten to close down the newspapers.

As for the Indians, well they have nowhere to go. This is their land of birth. They have to suffer and die here. They is no hope. Do you think the ruling government is bothered about world opinion?

Ultimately, everyone is answerable to the Supreme God. The universal truth will catch up with the the heartless and uncaring. Those who have committed a crime against humanity will have to pay. Not only will they have to pay but their next generations will too. This is karma. The universal law of justice. Only fools will ignore this.
