  • Activist Roshinee Mookaiah claimed police evicted her from the Perdana Botanical Gardens in Kuala Lumpur at the behest of the park’s management - reportedly for staging a “protest” without a permit from Kuala Lumpur City Hall.

    She was there to collect signatures for her “Dilarang Ponteng Parliament” (Prohibited to Skip Parliament) initiative, which seeks stricter rules to ensure that MPs turn up for their jobs when the Dewan Rakyat is in session.

    She has since relocated near the Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad.

    As of April 23, Roshinee had collected 425 physical signatures - close to the 500 required to compel Parliament to debate her petition. She is now aiming to collect 1,000 signatures.

  • UPDATED 7.58pm

    Police are investigating an individual who reportedly complained about the azan and Friday prayer congestion at a surau in Taman Seraya, Ampang.

    Selangor police chief Shazeli Kahar said this followed multiple police reports being lodged.

    Police are also actively seeking the suspect and are preventing him from leaving the country, he added.

    “We want to meet the suspect, and he will be called in to assist in the investigation. He has been placed on a special watchlist to ensure he does not leave Malaysia,” The Star quoted him as saying.

    The man has since been arrested over a call for Friday prayers at the surau to cease.
