Politics

• Perlis Amanah Youth chief Ahmad Fadhzil Mohamad has announced his resignation from the party, effective immediately, relinquishing all positions.

  Fadhzil (above), who contested the Sanglang seat during the 15th general election, said he decided to leave because of a widening gap between the principles he holds and the current priorities and approach within the political landscape.

  Aside from his state role, he served as Kangar Youth chief and National Amanah Youth Health Bureau chief. Fadhzil expressed gratitude to party members for their support, noting he intends to focus on community-centric efforts aligned with his principles.

  Amanah Youth chief Hasbie Muda acknowledged the departure and thanked Fadhzil for his service. Hasbie added that the Perlis wing would be restructured with new leadership to ensure continued operations.

James Chai

• The MACC’s questioning of former economy minister Rafizi Ramli’s former aide, James Chai, will continue into its third day tomorrow, The Star reported.

  

  It quoted a source stating that Chai arrived at 10am today to facilitate investigations into the government’s RM1.1 billion deal with British semiconductor firm Arm Holdings, and was released at 6.45pm to continue at 10am tomorrow.

  He was questioned for about six hours yesterday.

Negeri Sembilan crisis

• The Telaga Undang of Sungai Ujong Sarifah Norzaidah Al-Qadri has urged authorities to inform them if any customs and ceremonies are held at Balai Undang Luak Sungai Ujong.

  She asserted that the venue can no longer be used for such purposes since Mubarak Thahak had been terminated as the Klana Petra Undang Luak Sungei Ujong since May 13, 2025, except with prior permission from the Waris Klana.

  Sarifah’s statement was published on Facebook at 5.42pm today, as several Negeri Sembilan nobles were holding a meeting at the place.

  Apart from Mubarak, whose status as the Sungai Ujong undang is in dispute, those in attendance are the three other undangs, Maarof Mat Rashad (Jelebu); Muhammad Abdullah (Johol); and Abdul Rahim Yasin (Rembau); Tunku Besar Tampin Tunku Syed Razman Tunku Syed Idrus Al-Qadri, and Datuk Syahbandar Baharudin Abdul Khalid.

Press freedom

• The Committee to Protect Journalists has described a recent police raid on the home of Malaysiakini journalist B Nantha Kumar and a related investigation into the news portal as blatant intimidation tactics.

  

  CPJ Asia Pacific regional director Beh Lih Yi said such tactics were aimed at inciting fear and silencing critical reporting on migrant worker issues in Malaysia.

  “Malaysia’s Human Resources Ministry and the police must drop their complaint immediately, and allow journalists to report freely on matters of public interest,” she said in a statement.

  The raid on Monday follows an ongoing investigation into a story about the government's purported plan to adopt a new system called The Universal Recruitment Advanced Platform (Turap).

Petrol prices

• The retail prices of RON97 petrol will be increased by five sen to RM4.90 per litre for the coming week, while the price of unsubsidised RON95 petrol will be increased by 10 sen to RM3.97 per litre.

  

  Other types of petrol and diesel remain unchanged.

  “The ongoing crisis in West Asia continues to create uncertainty in the global petroleum market, with conflict risks remaining high and market direction still difficult to predict.

  “Retail prices for RON97 and unsubsidised RON95 are adjusted in line with international market movements,” the Finance Ministry said.
