Crime

• The Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court has ordered a woman arrested for knife possession at the Rain Rave Festival in Bukit Bintang to undergo a psychiatric evaluation, according to police.

  Dang Wangi police chief Sazalee Adam said the order was issued after Shannon-Anne Ooi, 28, was charged earlier today under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act with unlawful possession of an offensive weapon.

  "The case has been set for mention on June 4. The suspect will be sent to Hospital Bahagia as she is suspected of suffering from mental illness.

  "The suspect is being held under remand at the Kajang Prison," he said in a brief statement.

State election

• Johor Perikatan Nasional is prepared to contest all 56 state seats in the next state election, while it awaits a new leader to replace Johor Bersatu chief Dr Sahruddin Jamal.

  Sahruddin, who resigned as Johor PN chief last December in solidarity with Muhyiddin Yassin following his resignation as PN chairperson, today said PN’s central leadership will decide on the list of election candidates.

  

  "So far, Bersatu president (Muhyiddin) has submitted a name (for state chief), but it has yet to be finalised. We are waiting for the announcement,” said the Bukit Kepong assemblyperson, according to media reports, on the sidelines of the Johor state assembly sitting.

  The former Johor menteri besar added that PN is open to cooperating with Muda through party president and Puteri Wangsa assemblyperson Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz.

PKR vs Umno

• PKR Women central executive committee member Farahida Fauzi has taken a swipe at Khairy Jamaluddin’s suggestion that Umno is now in a better place internally than the party’s allies and rivals.

  In a statement, Farahida said Khairy’s remarks, which she claimed targeted PKR and Bersatu, were made after years of being out of Umno.

  “Khairy claiming that Umno is stronger and less criticised compared to PKR and Bersatu is not only weak in its arguments, but also laden with perception-driven manoeuvring that is easy to read,” she said.

  Farahida also described Khairy’s remarks as a personal interpretation rather than an accurate reflection of the political situation.

  “Differences in views (within PKR) are not a sign of fragility, but a reflection of a living and functioning party,” she said, alluding to criticisms by former PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli targeted at the party’s leadership.

• PKR Young Women chief Nurhidayah Che Rose echoed criticisms against Khairy, describing his remarks as “shallow” and placing individual interest above larger political gains.

  

  She went on to describe the remarks as an attempt to strain ties between Pakatan Harapan and BN, which would ultimately benefit PN as the opposition pact.

  “An attempt to spark conflict and trigger public uncertainty for political popularity is an irresponsible move,” she said.
