Outgoing MACC chief Azam Baki, in his farewell speech today, said he would never forgive those who had launched personal attacks against him and his family.

Speaking at an official ceremony marking his retirement, Azam appeared overcome with emotion as he paid tribute to his late parents, as well as his wife and children, whom he said had endured the attacks alongside him.

"I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Allah and my heartfelt appreciation to my late father, Baki Nordin, and my mother, Maimun Bador, for all their sacrifices and prayers that enabled me to be blessed with this position.

"I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to my beloved wife, Normah (Zin), for her prayers, patience, and unwavering support throughout the challenges of my career.

"My heartfelt appreciation also goes to all my children for their patience and understanding in enduring all the attacks and demands by the public.

"This is not an easy thing for my family to face the attacks. I will never forgive the doers who are actually attacking me for nothing (sic)," he said, his voice quivering.

During the event held at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya this evening, Azam also expressed his gratitude to all the officers who had served under his command and sought their forgiveness for any shortcomings.

Azam's contract as the agency's chief expires as he reaches age 63 today. Former judge Abdul Halim Aman will take over his position.

Azam has previously received three contract extensions after reaching the mandatory retirement age for civil servants in 2023.

During his tenure, Azam was implicated in controversies surrounding his shareholdings and recently became a subject of a government investigation.

MACC has also been accused of involvement in a corporate mafia.
