• Ampang PKR urged Rodziah Ismail to vacate her parliamentary seat following her attendance at the Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama) event of former party leaders Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad yesterday.

  In a statement today, division deputy chief Daing Reduan Bachok accused Rodziah (above) of no longer being loyal to PKR’s leadership.

  Daing affirmed that Ampang PKR will continue to defend the party, its president Anwar Ibrahim, as well as the people’s mandate against attempts to damage the reformasi struggle for the sake of “personal political interests”.

• PKR’s Semambu assemblyperson Chan Chun Kang, in a statement, said the government should focus on bigger problems than the funding received by civil society groups.

  Responding to PKR Youth chief Kamil Abdul Munim’s call for authorities to probe Mandiri over alleged foreign-funded anti-government activities, Chan said applying for grants is normal for civil society groups.

  The Pahang legislator also reminded Pakatan Harapan that it too had faced accusations over alleged funds from the Open Society Institute and the National Democratic Institute.

Legislative

• The government will table its revised bill for the separation of the public prosecutor's role from the attorney-general's office when the Dewan Rakyat convenes this June.

  The Malay Mail quoted Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Azalina Othman Said as saying that the new draft has taken "everything into account" and might receive the support of both the government and opposition MPs.

  

  In a separate event, she also advised MPs not to arbitrarily vacate their seats before the end of their terms.

  She stressed that while resignation is a democratic right, elected representatives have a fundamental duty to their constituents to represent their concerns in the Dewan Rakyat.

Petrol subsidy

• The Consumers' Association of Penang (CAP) wants the government to consider banning petrol subsidy for mat rempits, saying that Malaysia needs to take a more cautious approach when dishing out such perks.

  In a statement today, its president Mohideen Abdul Kader also proposed banning motorised convoys during the current energy crisis.

  

  Regarding the T20 group, which is estimated to consume 30 percent of the total RON95 subsidy, Mohideen said this is likely due to multiple vehicle ownership and frequent travel.

  He said reducing or removing the RON95 subsidy for the T20, therefore, appears inevitable on these grounds.
