  • Jelutong MP RSN Rayer has been awarded RM100,000 in damages after winning a defamation suit against a social media user over videos published online in 2024.

Free Malaysia Today reported Rayer’s lawyer, K Kumarathiraviam, saying that the Georgetown Sessions Court judge Norsalha Hamzah also ordered S Murugesan, 50, to pay the DAP MP RM4,000 in costs.

Rayer reportedly sued Murugesan over several videos released on WhatsApp, TikTok, and Facebook in September 2024. The videos, he said, were defamatory and had damaged his reputation as a lawyer, an elected representative, a DAP leader, and the Penang Hindu Endowments Board (PHEB) chairperson.

Among others, Rayer said the statements implied he had stolen PHEB funds and was planning to steal or misuse more money.

  • Sabah PKR vice-chairperson Amin Abdul Mem is the latest to announce his exit from the party, ending his 27-year involvement with the reformasi movement.

New Straits Times reported that Amin, who is also the Semporna PKR branch chief, said the decision was made after evaluating the current state of the party, which he claimed has steered away from its original reformasi principles.

He added that PKR has changed since the formation of the coalition government, stating that a culture of compromise and intense politicking has become increasingly evident within the party.

"What makes it more difficult is that figures outside the original reformasi chain have now almost entirely dominated the party," Amin added.

Recently, several PKR grassroots members announced their departure from the party, most notably the mass resignation of 19 committee members from the Pandan PKR Youth division.
