Government appointments

• Johor DAP has reportedly clarified that incumbent Skudai assemblyperson Marina Ibrahim was offered the opportunity to head a statutory body, rather than a government-linked company (GLC).

  Malay Mail reported Johor DAP vice-chairperson Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali stressing that statutory bodies and GLCs are distinct entities.

  “Statutory bodies are established by an Act of Parliament or state enactment to fulfil specific public policy or socio-economic objectives, while a GLC is incorporated under the Companies Act 2016 and the government acts as a majority shareholder.

  “This is actually a good fit for Marina (above), who has been passionate and known for her welfare activism over the years,” he was quoted as saying.

  

  The report also quoted Johor Pakatan Harapan chairperson Aminolhuda Hassan as saying that such appointments, particularly to statutory bodies, are a normal practice among political parties that are part of the government.

Johor election

• Muda said it will defend its Puteri Wangsa seat in the upcoming Johor state election.

  In a statement, the party added that it would field more young candidates as part of its broader push to offer voters a fresh alternative in Johor’s political landscape.

  

  The party said its victory in Puteri Wangsa previously demonstrated that voters in Johor were open to a new form of politics centred on integrity, accountability and service-driven leadership.

  "This election is not merely about political parties or the contest for power. It is about the future of Johor and the generation that will inherit it," Muda added.
