Royal dispute

• Negeri Sembilan territorial chieftains and customary leaders have accused the state ruler, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, of bulldozing a decision to sack Mubarak Thahak as the Undang Luak of Sungai Ujong in April.

  According to a supporting affidavit filed at the Seremban High Court, the ruler had allegedly ignored objections raised by the Tunku Besar of Tampin, Tunku Syed Razman Tunku Syed Idrus Al-Qadri; and Sungai Ujong’s Datuk Syahbandar Badarudin Abdul Khalid, during a special sitting of the Council of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar and the Ruling Chiefs' (Dewan Keadilan dan Undang) on April 17.

  

  "We were surprised by the manner of the meeting chairperson (Tuanku Muhriz) when he made a unilateral decision, which was read from a pre-prepared text, to sack the first plaintiff (Mubarak) as the Undang Luak of Sungai Ujong with immediate effect.

  "We want to stress here that we, as the fifth and sixth plaintiffs, strongly disagreed with the manner in which the matter was handled and asserted that the chairperson of the meeting lacked the authority, under ‘adat’ (customary law) and the constitution of the state of Negeri Sembilan, to make such a decision, including the removal of any Negeri Sembilan ruler.

  "Despite this, the chairperson ignored our objections and proceeded to finish reading the text and ordered the Negeri Sembilan menteri besar to make an announcement (of the sacking decision)," said the document, which was filed by Johol chieftain Muhammad Abdullah on behalf of the leaders.

Negeri Sembilan polls

• Along with the Johor polls, the Election Commission will discuss important dates for the Negeri Sembilan state election on June 12.

  EC secretary Khairul Shahril Idrus said the meeting will be chaired by its chairperson, Ramlan Harun.

  The 36-seat Negeri Sembilan state assembly was officially dissolved on June 5.

Economy

• Malaysia continues to demonstrate economic resilience amid global geopolitical uncertainty, securing RM92.8 billion in approved investments for the first quarter of 2026 (Q1 2026), Bernama reported the Malaysian Investment Development Authority as saying.

  

  Japan emerged as the largest foreign investor, and domestic investment recorded its strongest year-on-year growth in the reporting quarter.

  The investments comprise 1,249 projects across the services, manufacturing, and primary sectors and are expected to create 50,226 new jobs, which is an increase of 46.7 percent compared to the same period last year.
