• A Kuching court has sentenced a 29-year-old man to three jail terms after he crashed into a roadblock and hit a senior police officer last Saturday.

  Kuching police chief Alexson Naga Chabu said the man had been sentenced to six months' jail under Section 26(2) of the Police Act 1967, one year's jail under Section 332 of the Penal Code, and nine months' jail under Section 186 of the same code.

  Bernama quoted Alexson as saying that the man had tested positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine, ketamine, and benzodiazepine during a preliminary urine screening.

  He also had six previous criminal records for various offences, Alexson said in a statement today.

• The Kuala Lumpur High Court will hear the judicial review application filed by Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu’s father, Shaariibuu Setev, on former police officer Azilah Hadri’s additional affidavit on Oct 6.

  Setev’s lawyer Sangeet Kaur confirmed the hearing date to Malaysiakini when contacted today.

  

  The affidavit challenged in this application is Azilah’s statutory declaration from Oct 17, 2019, which he claimed he acted under explicit instructions for his involvement in Altantuya’s murder.

  Azilah’s additional affidavits, affirmed on Sept 24, 2024, were parts of documents included in his final bid to commute his death sentence at the Federal Court.
