• Amanah president Mohamad Sabu expressed disappointment that Pakatan Harapan would have to fight its federal-level partner, BN, during the upcoming Johor state election.

  Addressing attendees at an event unveiling Harapan’s candidates for the polls, Mohamad (above) described Umno leaders as “friends,” lamenting that the upcoming battle in Johor is in contrast with the jovial atmosphere during cabinet meetings.

  “We joke around, we laugh together, (but) now when we come here, we have to fight. What can we do? That is their choice,” the agriculture and food security minister said in his speech last night.

UEC

• A report on the feasibility of recognising the United Examination Certificate (UEC) will be submitted to the Higher Education Ministry next month.

  Former UEC Task Force chairperson Eddin Khoo reportedly said Higher Education Minister Zambry Abd Kadir’s willingness to receive the report differs from the supposed attitude adopted by previous leaders.

  

  Khoo, in addressing a forum last night, had accused former education ministers from past and current administrations of “lying” about the status of the report and the task force, Free Malaysia Today reported.

World Cup

• Civil servants watching the ongoing Fifa World Cup should not allow their late-night viewing habits to affect their duties and responsibilities to the public, said Malacca Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusoh.

  

  Rauf said that while he “cannot stop” anyone from staying awake to watch the matches, work discipline among civil servants must remain a priority.

  He added that he will “not defend” any civil servants if their superiors file complaints against poor performance linked with the event, The Star reported.
