Politics

  • Former deputy law minister Hanipa Maidin expressed concern over reports that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was allegedly barred from using a hall in Muar for a community engagement programme.

“Regardless of political alignment, he serves as the nation’s prime minister; therefore, his freedom of movement and ability to engage with citizens should not be restricted,” Hanipa (above) said in a statement.

PKR Youth chief Kamil Abdul Munim claimed Anwar was barred from using a public hall in Muar to meet with the local community recently.

He said the move was puzzling, given that the prime minister has always been accommodating and tolerant towards the Johor state government in resolving various issues.

“I want to know whose instruction it was to prevent the prime minister from using the complex. The Johor state government must answer this,” Kamil told reporters in Segamat last night.

Thailand bombing

  • Two Malaysian men injured in a bomb blast in Tak Bai district, Narathiwat, southern Thailand this morning had entered the country legally, Bernama reported.

The report quoted Kelantan police chief Yusoff Mamat saying that information from the Thai police established that one victim is from Kelantan and the other from Sabah.

“We believe the victims’ families are already aware of the incident, and the Kelantan police will try to assist with whatever is needed.

“However, we are awaiting further investigations from the Thai police,” Yusoff reportedly said.

He also advised Malaysians, particularly those from Kelantan, against travelling to the neighbouring country unless necessary.
