Johor polls

• Police have opened three investigation papers after receiving seven police reports related to the Johor state polls, Bernama reported.

  Johor police chief Ab Rahaman Arsad reportedly said that police opened two investigation papers under Section 435 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire or explosive substance, and Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief.

  He added that the police opened another investigation paper under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, covering alleged seditious conduct and improper use of network facilities.

  "We will intensify security control and monitoring across all constituencies to ensure every (election) process runs smoothly, orderly and safely. So far, no incidents affecting public order have been reported,” he was quoted as saying in a statement today.

Energy policy

• The Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry, through the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (Seda), will implement the 2026 NUR@PETRA Programme for domestic consumers from July, Bernama reported.

  The programme is part of the government's efforts to help the public cope with supply challenges arising from rising energy costs and uncertainty in the global energy market due to geopolitical conflicts in West Asia, while advancing the country's energy transition agenda.

  

  The ministry reportedly said in a statement today that the initiative is expected to reduce electricity consumption by 552.25 gigawatt-hours (GWh), generating savings of RM250.72 million over five years.

  Applications for the domestic rebate will open on July 1. The ministry said the government has allocated 160,000 rebate units, worth RM32 million in total, for the programme this year.

  Eligible domestic consumers can claim a RM200 rebate on the purchase of energy-efficient air conditioners or refrigerators carrying a four- or five-star energy efficiency label issued by the Energy Commission.

Court

• A firefighter pleaded not guilty at the Bachok Magistrate’s Court to negligent driving, which allegedly resulted in serious injuries to a four-year-old girl early this year.

  Bernama reported that Shuhaili Shuib, 46, was charged with negligently driving a Toyota Innova multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) and hitting the girl at the parking area of Sri Chalet Nipah, causing serious injuries to the child, at about 10.45am on Jan 3.

  

  The charge was reportedly framed under Section 338 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of two years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.

  The court allowed Shuhaili bail of RM2,500 with one surety and fixed Aug 3 for mention and submission of documents.
