  • The Orang Asli community in the interior of Gua Musang, Kelantan, are hoping the government will include diesel in the Essential Goods Supply programme at the Kuala Betis Resettlement Plan Area.

    The area serves as an entry point for settlements in the interior, such as Pos Balar, Pos Belatim, Pos Simpor, and Pos Gob.

    Bernama quoted villagers saying that the inclusion of RON95 fuel more than a year ago has greatly benefited villagers, as they no longer need to go back and forth to town for petrol.

    Diesel would be needed for those using four-wheel drive vehicles and pickup trucks in the interior, as well as agricultural machinery and electric generators.

  • The World Meteorological Organisation has warned that El Niño conditions have developed in the tropical Pacific and are expected to strengthen rapidly from July to September.

    This increases the likelihood of heat waves, droughts, heavy rainfall, and other extreme weather events across many parts of the world, Anadolu reported, quoting the UN body’s latest Global Seasonal Climate Update.

    The agency said it has stepped up coordination, climate information services, and early warning support to help governments, humanitarian organisations, and climate-sensitive sectors, including agriculture and health, prepare for the potential impacts.
