• Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar has granted an audience to BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Johor BN chief Onn Hafiz Ghazi today.

  In a Facebook post, the king said that the audience lasted nearly an hour at the Istana Pasir Pelangi in Johor Bahru.

  

  The post also noted BN’s victory in Johor, winning 48 out of the 56 state legislative assembly seats contested.

Johor polls

• Parti Bersama Malaysia’s Johor Jaya candidate Lau Yi Leong congratulates BN’s Chan San San for her win and accepts his defeat in the state elections.

  Lau, in a heartfelt statement today, thanked all 2,051 voters who placed their trust in the party and extended his gratitude to volunteers who campaigned tirelessly alongside the candidates.

  

  Taking responsibility for the loss, Lau noted that he was not emotionally impacted by the results as the party’s entry in the election marked a bold beginning.

• PKR deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar congratulates BN as well as eight Pakatan Harapan candidates for their victory in the state election.

  Taking to Instagram, Nurul Izzah said yesterday’s result contrasted against the reality of a deeply disproportionate electoral system.

• There is nothing “peculiar” in attempts to block an “enemy’s” victory, PAS central committee member Annuar Musa retorts to former Umno supreme council member Puad Zarkashi.

  Instead, Annuar stated that what was “peculiar” in Johor’s state election were attempts to defeat an ally.

  

  Earlier, Puad took to Facebook and said PAS practiced a “peculiar” form of politics and that the party is “willing to destroy” its own component partner.

  Puad also emphasised that PAS must not be given any appointed state assemblyperson seats in the state legislative assembly.

• PAS assistant secretary-general Syahir Sulaiman said Perikatan Nasional was not viewed as a viable alternative to BN and Harapan in Johor.

  He attributed this to the absence of an MB candidate or a convincing manifesto throughout the election.

  

  He added that the psychology of a voter during state polls showed that they tend to favour parties or coalitions perceived as having the capability and credibility to form a government.

• Parti Wawasan Negara will continue to assist PN in refining its approaches and strategies in future elections, particularly the upcoming Negeri Sembilan election in August, said its information chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal.

  In a statement, Wan Fayhsal also congratulated BN over its victory in the Johor state election.

  

  He added that the victory must be respected as it represented the will of Johor voters.

  Wan Fayhsal further said that the decline in support for Harapan represents more than just a shift in election figures, stressing it also serves as a reminder that the people evaluate the attitude and approach of a government.
