• Future prime minister aspirant Ahmad Zahid Hamidi hopes that one day Malaysia can host the World Cup.

  “Hopefully, by then, the Malaysian team will be among the World Cup participants representing Southeast Asia,” he said last night before watching the final match between Argentina and Spain.

• Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan said he is prepared to resign if instructed to do so by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

  

  This is after Anwar said ministers who want to attack their colleagues in the Negeri Sembilan election campaign should resign first.

  “We are not mud slinging… There are no personal attacks, but if there’s an instruction from the prime minister for me to resign, I am willing to do so,” he was quoted as saying by Utusan Malaysia yesterday.

• Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman completed a three-day run over 170km from the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya to his constituency yesterday.

  

  The run, which was to celebrate the courts freeing him for good from corruption charges, also sought to raise welfare funds for his constituency.

  His original goal was RM200,000. He raised RM650,000.
