• Police believed the Malaysian pilot arrested in Jakarta for allegedly smuggling drugs last month had passed security checks on his own and without any “insider” help at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

  This is according to Bukit Aman Narcotics Department director Hussein Omar Khan, who reportedly told Buletin TV3 that their preliminary investigation showed the suspect had acted “solo”.

  “From our questioning, we found that the incident did not involve any insider at KLIA, meaning he was on his own when he got past security checks.

  “So we are looking into how he could go through security undetected,” Hussein (above) reportedly said.

Earthquake

• At least two people were killed in Flores, Indonesia, after the island was hit by its worst earthquake since 1992.

  The magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck at 4.58am local time (5.58am Malaysian time).

  A tsunami warning was issued but later rescinded without any tsunami or dangerous sea level rises being detected, Bernama quoted Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency as saying.
