Hilman urges govt to release supporting documents for Tabung Haji RCI

Bersatu Youth chief Hilman Idham has urged the government to make public all supporting documents underlying the royal commission of inquiry report on Tabung Haji.

He said this would promote transparency and allow Malaysians to independently scrutinise the RCI’s findings.

"The people have the right to know not only what was concluded, but how the conclusions were made and based on what evidence," the Gombak Setia assemblyperson said in a statement today.

Hilman acknowledged that documents protected by law or whose disclosure could affect ongoing investigations could reasonably be withheld.

However, he said such exemptions should not be used as a blanket justification to keep the RCI’s supporting material from public view.

High bonuses paid

The RCI report into Tabung Haji, made public last month, found that high bonuses were paid to staff and board members of Tabung Haji Properties without complying with established regulations.

The RM2.19 million in bonuses paid to selected directors and officers of the subsidiary was approved without following the required legal procedures.

The report also highlighted political interference and the involvement of Umno leaders on Tabung Haji’s board.

Several decisions, including profit distributions (hibah), haj payments, and Haji Financial Assistance, were found to have been influenced by political considerations.

On Aug 21, the police said five investigation cases have been opened into cases linked to Tabung Haji, with statements recorded from 127 people so far.

According to Bernama, Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Rusdi Isa said the investigations were being carried out under the Penal Code, Tabung Haji Act 1995, Companies Act 1965, and Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001, among others.
