UUCA

  • Gabungan Mahasiswa Islam Se-Malaysia has urged the government to establish a clear timeline and plan to repeal the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971 (UUCA).

    In a statement on Facebook this evening, the student group said its representatives conveyed this to the Higher Education Ministry in a meeting earlier today.

    “This meeting is a follow-up to the gathering and submission of a memorandum before the Higher Education Ministry this morning,” it said.

Nepal floods

  • The Foreign Ministry said 11 Malaysians have gone missing in Rasuwa, Nepal, following the floods there this morning.

    “This loss of contact is believed to be a direct result of the severe disruption to communication and electricity networks caused by the disaster.

    “The embassy is actively coordinating with local authorities and the search and rescue teams being deployed by the Nepalese government to locate the affected Malaysians and ascertain their safety,” it said in a statement today.
