The Sun and the Star frontpaged Transport Minister and MCA deputy president Chan Kong Choy’s confirmation that he would not be contesting in the general election, citing poor health reasons.

The Star also highlighted that a second generation of politicians are set to take over from their parents as many of them will contest in their father's seat or take on other's constituencies.

Tamil newspapers

Makkal Osai led with a call, once again, by former MIC vice president V Govindaraju for the party’s president to step down.

Tamil Nesan quoted Samy Vellu as saying that the Indian community welcomed his list of new candidates for the coming general election.

Editorials

The Sun said political parties should avoid conflicts of interests by placing relatives to replace leaders who have lost the public trust.

New Straits Times said opposition parties can no longer claim that the election was not fair and clean as EC would apply new moves to ensure transparency in the upcoming general election.

Berita Harian said incumbents who were not nominated should give full support to the new faces to ensure BN’s success.

Nanyang Siang Pau praised Chan Kong Choy for his excellent contribution to the country in his 25 years political career.

Sin Chew Daily commented that MCA will have many new faces to fill up all the vacant high posts after the election.
