The Star, New Straits Times and the Sun headlined that Barisan Nasional won seven Parliamentary and two state steats uncontesting putting them ahead of the opposition in the polls.

The Borneo Post reported that BN-SPDP incumbent Dr Tiki Lafe will face old foe State Reform Party (Star) president Dr Patau Rubis and two others in Mas Gading. This is the third contest between the two Bidayuh doctors who are also cousins. The other two candidates are independents and political rookies.

Malay newspapers

Utusan Malaysia and Berita Harian both featured BN’s victory in winning 9 seats uncontested accompanied by various pictures of candidate in hot seats throughout the country.

New Straits Times opined that candidates and not parties will be the focus of voters in this general elections.
