The New Straits Times and the Star headlined that Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi was sworn in yesterday, with both Umno and Barisan Nasional pledging their complete support for him.

The Star reported that MCA president Ong Ka Ting will not seek a cabinet post.

The Sun says quoted Abdullah as saying there was no problem forming his cabinet despite the lack of non-Malay representatives from some BN component parties which did badly in Saturday’s general election.

Bahasa Malaysia newspapers

Berita Harian and Utusan Malaysia also featured Abdullah’s swearing in ceremony and that Umno party members unilateral supported him.

Utusan also reported that the new Selangor and Perak state governments are having trouble with its formation.

Berita Harian carried Kubang Pasu parliamentarian Johari Baharum warning the people to stop spreading rumours about Abdullah’s alleged resignation. The paper also reported that the composite index yesterday fell 123.11 points.

Tamil newspapers

Tamil Nesan led with Abdullah admitting that the shocking election results was a lesson for BN.

Makkal Osai reported that Maika Holdings failed to set aside an injunction order granted to Nesa Cooperative last year to stop Maika from disposing its assets.

New Straits Times hopeds that the five new opposition state governments will work together and warn this will be a difficult task.

Berita Harian said a simple majority by the BN should not threaten the leadership of the party.

The Sun says it is a ‘new Malaysia’ with both BN and opposition now given the responsibility to show what they can do for the nation.

Makkal Osai said that MIC president S Samy Vellu should bring back all the grassroots leaders who he had previously sidelined and sacked to strengthen and consolidate the support for the embattled party.

Tamil Nesan commented that all component partners of BN must continue to support Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
