An opposition parliamentary research head today said the final date to file their questions on time for the next meeting is June 2, not June 1 as reported by the Star today.

PKR research head Ong Ooi Heng described the report as "inaccurate", adding that Dewan Rakyat secretary has also confirmed after his enquiry that the report was inaccurate.

“Even though it’s only a one day difference, if the final date is on June 1, MPs who have not filed their questions would fail to do so because Sunday is not a working day,” he told Malaysiakini.

The Star reported that MPs have until June 1 to submit their 10 oral and five written questions for the next meeting scheduled to start on June 23.

Ong further clarified that according to Dewan Rakyat rules, MPs from both sides have 14 days to file the questions .

“But only working days are included (besides Saturdays and Sundays),” he added.

Embarrassing episode

According to the daily, party leaders have reminded their MPs to file their questions on time for the next meeting in June following the embarrassing episode where 29 parliamentarians forgot to do so in April.

A total of 29 MPs, 15 from Barisan Nasional, five from DAP and nine from PKR did not file their questions before April 8 for the just-concluded session which started on April 28.

The current session of Parliament ended last Thursday with members having a three-week recess until June 23.
