The accusers will be given immunity from prosecution even if it was found that their report is false, said a press statement released by the MB’s office late this evening.

The MB’s office said that the issue will be investigated by the state’s Special Select Committee on Competence, Accountability and Transparency (Selcat) headed by Teng Chang Khim, who is also the Selangor state assembly speaker.

It added that the state government planned to pursue a parallel investigation on the matter as the Anti-Corruption Agency may be slow in taking action.

“The state government urged the whistleblowers ... to contact Teng,” said the statement, adding that the seven-member committee - which include two opposition assemblypersons - would meet as soon as more information had been provided.

The probe was a result of a complaint made by four PKR members last week, alleging irregularities in the approval of a cleaning and rubbish collection contract in Petaling Jaya by an unnamed top official at Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim's office.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that ACA has questioned an official from the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) this afternoon in relation to the matter.

The anti-graft agency officials are also believed to have seized some documents pertaining to the investigation.

Whistleblower: It’s a small matter

Remy Iskandar, the PKR member who lodged the ACA report last week, told Malaysiakini that he would discuss with his three colleagues before taking up the offer from the Selangor government.

Remy, who claimed to be a PKR member from Pasir Tumboh, said he is ready to sent the documents in support of their allegations to the committee after he has consulted with the rest of the complainants.

“We will get it done as soon as possible,” he said, refusing to reveal when they will be submitting the documents to Selcat.

He stressed that the issue “is a small matter” and should not be “over publicised”.

“I’m worried this would draw a lot of speculation - that’s why I don’t want it to be blown out of proportion,” he said.

Earlier, special aide to menteri besar Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said he was unsure who the complainants are but said Selcat would probe the matter to verify the allegations.

He added that he was not sure whether the four are PKR members.

“I don’t know who Remy is but they could be applying to be (PKR) members.”

Nik Nazmi added he did not want to prejudice the investigation and declined to make any further comments on the matter.
