Fans of controversial Indonesian singer Inul Daratista will be disappointed as Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has cancelled her concert permit at Stadium Putra, Bukit Jalil.

According to Star, concert organiser Nasir Abu Bakar of IMS Prima Sdn Bhd said he was disappointed with the decision because the Central Committee for Filming and Performance by Foreign Artiste had given the green light for the event.

“We received the directive from DBKL to cancel the concert due to national security. If that is the reason, there is nothing else I can say,” he told the media.

Dangdut songstress Inul - famous for her gelek gerudi (drilling gyration) hip movements - had previously performed in the country last year as well as in 2005.

Two years ago, Inul's concert at Stadium Merdeka and Genting Highlands received overwhelming response with little objections.

Inul daratista 240709 Inul's concert in Johor Baru was recently cancelled by the Johor Baru authorities barely 24 hours before show time after numerous complaints from Johor PAS and other religious groups.

Not suitable for youngsters

The controversy surrounding her performance appeared to cause her immense stress as she almost fainted as she was walking out of a press conference after learning about the cancellation of her concert in the southern state.

“I was very tired and I cried because I was sad thinking about all the preparations we had already made.

“It’s clear my tears were not in vain because there is still a place in Malaysia for me,” she said, referring to the concert in KL tomorrow.

Nasir revealed that his company has incurred RM800,000 in losses following the cancellation of both the concerts.

Her performance 'inappropriate'

Yesterday, PAS Youth chief Salahuddin Ayub backed the party’s Federal Territory Youth chief Kamaruzaman Mohamad’s protest against Inul's concert in the country’s capital.

“All elements about her performance are inappropriate and not suitable for youngsters in this country,” he said.

Kamaruzaman had led a group to submit a memorandum to KL mayor Abdul Hakim Borhan on Wednesday calling for Inul’s concert to be cancelled because it was too “erotic”.

In October last year, American R&B singer Beyonce cancelled a concert in Malaysia allegedly in protest after her organisers were told that she has to cover up and change her act.

She subsequently rescheduled her performance to Jakarta, Indonesia which has more relaxed Muslim rules.
